Christiaan wrote and read Erie’s first Pride Month declaration in 2020, and had LGBTQ+ flags raised at Town properties during Pride month starting in 2021. As a Board member of Being Better Neighbors (a local organization dedicated to community building, education, and cultural events to promote diversity and inclusivity), he helped organize Erie’s first ever Pride event held in 2022 for almost 4,000 attendees. He is an accomplished public speaker, civil servant, photographer, and roller derby referee.
